Polish Retreats is a small independent editorial imprint publishing a curated register of boutique hospitality properties across the Republic of Poland.
The guide is produced by Polish Retreats sp. z o.o., a limited-liability company registered at ul. Marszałkowska 100, 00-026 Warszawa. It was founded in the winter of 2024 with the simple intention of documenting, honestly and at some length, the country's most interesting places to stay — from the Belle Époque grand hotels of central Warsaw to the restored Renaissance townhouses on the Wawel slope and the pine-fronted seaside addresses of the Kashubian coast.
Editorial standards
Every property listed here has been visited by our editors, most within the last twelve months. We pay for our own rooms; we do not accept complimentary stays, we do not run paid rankings, and we do not charge properties for inclusion. If a listing carries commercial affiliation — a rare exception, always disclosed — the disclosure appears on the listing itself, and the editorial content remains independent of it.
We aim to write about buildings the way a good architecture critic writes about them: with attention, with restraint, and without hyperbole. Dossiers include historical background, room-by-room notes where relevant, and honest observation of what the property does well and what it does not.
What this site is not
Polish Retreats does not take bookings. We do not hold rates, we do not confirm availability, and we do not process payments on this site. When a guest wishes to make a reservation with a listed property, they do so directly with the property itself; we hold no commercial interest in the transaction.
Age policy
A share of the featured properties are casino-hotels — grand or contemporary hotels that also operate a licensed casino floor on the premises, run under Poland's Gaming Act. Because those rooms, and one or two of our other featured venues (licensed bars, late programmes, adult evening events), are age-restricted, access to the site is limited to adults aged 18 and over. Visitors are asked to confirm their age on first arrival; the confirmation is held locally in the visitor's own browser and no personal data is collected as part of the check.
A note on casino-hotels
Several entries in the register — the Sheraton in Sopot, the historic pavilion of the Bristol in Warsaw, and one or two contemporaries beyond the register's first year — belong to Poland's small class of casino-hotel properties: hotels that host a licensed gaming room as one amenity among many. Our editorial treatment of these properties is the same as our treatment of any other listing: we describe the building, its history and its operational character; we do not review the gaming rooms themselves, promote them, or take any interest, commercial or otherwise, in their turnover. Guests who wish to use the casino floor of a listed property do so on their own account and under the rules of the licensed operator.
